INDUSTRY'S ONLY ADC WITH SOFTWARE-SELECTABLE INPUT RANGE AND SIMULTANEOUS-SAMPLING; REDUCES BOARD SPACE AND OFFERS 14-BITS OF RESOLUTION

SUNNYVALE, CA-May 21, 2004-Maxim Integrated Products (NASDAQ: MXIM) introduces the MAX1338, a 14-bit analog-to-digital converter (ADC) that offers simultaneous sampling of four fully differential channels. Channel-independent, software-programmable input ranges of ±10V, ±5V, ±2.5V, and ±1.25V need no external matched resistor networks, switches, or precision buffers. The MAX1338 replaces these components and significantly reduces board space, design complexity, and production test time. On-chip input protection provides ±17V of overvoltage protection regardless of the input range selected. This device is ideal for vibration analysis, multiple-channel data recorders, and optical communication equipment.

Excellent DC (±2 LSB INL and ±1 LSB DNL) and AC (75dB SNR, 75dB SINAD) performance surpass Maxim's previous generation of simultaneous-sampling ADCs. The MAX1338 features a 5MHz parallel interface, internal 2.5V reference, and internal conversion clock. This device samples at 150ksps per channel and operates on a 5V supply. A separate 2.7V to 5.25V supply powers the parallel digital interface which offers flexible I/O levels. A first-in/first-out (FIFO) function reduces interface overhead and allows the conversion results to be read at the end of the conversion sequence or between conversions.

The MAX1338 is available in extended (-40°C to +85°C) temperature range in a 8mm x 8mm, 56-pin TQFN package.
