COMPLETE TRIPLE-OUTPUT xDSL POWER SUPPLIES FOR MODEMS, ROUTERS, AND GATEWAYS SAVE COST AND REDUCE NOISE
SUNNYVALE, CA-April 22, 2004-Maxim Integrated Products (NASDAQ: MXIM) introduces the MAX8513/MAX8514 triple-output, complete xDSL power supplies for modems, routers, and gateways. These products combine an all-n-channel step-down DC-DC converter controller with two linear-regulator controllers. The MAX8513 provides three positive outputs, and the MAX8514 provides two positive and one negative output.
Both devices save system cost in several ways. They operate from a low-cost unregulated input in the 4.5V to 28V range. They integrate essential functions like tracking/sequencing, output power-on reset (POR), and an input fail monitor. They do not require a sense resistor and use all-n-channel MOSFETs (no p-channels), and are versatile enough to use electrolytic, polymer, or ceramic capacitors.
Both parts also reduce noise interference. Their 1.4MHz PWM switching reduces noise and interference in the ADSL band. They can be synchronized to other switchers or a clock, and ceramic capacitors minimize output ripple. The step-down output range is 1.25V to 5.5V. The LDO outputs range down to 0.8V.
The MAX8513EEI and MAX8514EEI come in 28-pin QSOP packages and are screened for the extended temperature range (-40°C to +85°C). Prices start at $1.45 (1000-up, FOB USA). The MAX8513 evaluation kit is available to speed designs.
