INTEGRATED AUDIO AMPLIFIER COMBINES A 2.6W STEREO AMP WITH DirectDrive HEADPHONE AMP AND VOLUME CONTROL

SUNNYVALE, CA-March 2, 2004-Maxim Integrated Products (NASDAQ:MXIM) introduces the MAX9750C, an integrated audio amplifier optimized for applications such as notebook PCs, flat-panel displays, and portable DVD players. The MAX9750C combines the benefits of Maxim's patented DirectDrive headphone-amplifier technology with a stereo, 2.6W, bridge-tied load (BTL) audio amplifier for a low-cost, low-component-count audio-amplifier solution.

The DirectDrive headphone amplifier produces a ground-referenced output from a single supply, eliminating the two bulky DC-blocking capacitors typically required between the amplifier and headphone. The MAX9750C operates from a single 4.5V to 5.5V supply, produces up to 2.6W into a 4 load, and features high 90dB PSRR. Low 0.01% THD+N ensures clean, high-fidelity audio playback. Industry-leading click-and-pop suppression eliminates audible transients on power and shutdown cycles. The device also includes selectable gain levels, DC volume control, and a beep input.

The MAX9750C is available in a small 28-pin TQFN package and includes short-circuit and thermal-overload protection. The device operates over the extended temperature range (-40°C to +85°C). Prices for the MAX9750CETI start at $0.90 (100,000-up, FOB USA).
