(NASDAQ: MXIM) introduces the MAX3942 modulator driver. Operating from a single -5.2V or +5.0V supply, the MAX3942 consumes only 125mA of current. The MAX3942 has a 23ps edge speed with a programmable modulation current up to 120mA (6VP-P into differential 50Ω loads). This device also features polarity control to ensure an easy interface to any serializer and operates with a selectable retiming latch to minimize jitter accumulations in the transmit path. An integrated 50Ω termination at the input and 50Ω back termination at the output reduces external component count.
The MAX3942 is designed for SONET OC192/SDH STM64 systems, 10GbE, metro, long-haul, point-to-point, and dense wave-division multiplexing (DWDM) applications and differentially drives a Mach-Zehnder modulator or direct-modulated packaged laser. The MAX3942 operates over the -40°C to 85°C temperature range and is packaged in a 4mm x 4mm, 24-pin TQFN. Prices start at $64.00 (1000-up, FOB USA).
