NEW LOW-COST, PIN-COMPATIBLE REAL-TIME CLOCK FROM DALLAS SEMICONDUCTOR OFFERS SOFTWARE CLOCK CALIBRATION

DALLAS, Texas-August 28, 2003-Dallas Semiconductor (NASDAQ: MXIM) introduces the DS1340 serial real-time clock (RTC), a low-power clock/calendar with software clock calibration. Offering more features and priced lower than our pin-for-pin competition, the DS1340 is ideal for portable instruments, point-of-sale and medical equipment, and telecommunications applications. It has dual power pins for primary and backup power supplies, and includes a programmable trickle charger. A 2-wire serial bus transfers address and data, and the oscillator runs down to 1.3V.

The RTC maintains seconds, minutes, hours, day, date, month, and year information. The date at the end of the month is automatically adjusted for months with fewer than 31 days, including corrections for leap year.

The DS1340 is rated for operation over the industrial temperature range (-40°C to +85°C), and is available in 8-pin SO and µSOP packages. The DS1340 is priced at $1.12 (1000-up, FOB USA), making it 25% less than the M41T00.
