CABLE TRANSCEIVER SIMPLIFIES InfiniBand AND CX4 INTERCONNECTIONS

SUNNYVALE, CA-August 7, 2003-Maxim Integrated Products (NASDAQ: MXIM) introduces the MAX3983 cable transceiver that extends the interconnection distance for 4x copper InfiniBand (IB) and 10Gbase-CX4 Ethernet links, increasing overall reach to 20m with 24AWG and 15m with 28AWG.

The MAX3983 features four transmit paths, which include PCB receivers and cable drivers, as well as four receive paths including cable receivers and PCB drivers. The cable receiver provides additional fixed input compensation while offering selectable preemphasis to drive FR-4 circuit boards up to 0.5m.

The device also features signal detection on all eight inputs and internal loopback that allows for system diagnostic testing.

The MAX3983 is packaged in a 10mm x 10mm, 68-pin QFN and operates from 0°C to +85°C. Prices start at $29.98 (1000-up, FOB USA). An evaluation kit is available to speed designs.
