2.7Gbps TRANSIMPEDANCE AMPLIFIERS FOR DIGITAL DIAGNOSTIC SFP MODULES

SUNNYVALE, CA-August 1, 2003-Maxim Integrated Products (NASDAQ: MXIM) introduces the MAX3744/MAX3745 3.3V, 2.7Gbps transimpedance amplifiers (TIA). When used with the MAX3748A limiting amplifier (LA), the MAX3744's enables receive-power monitoring. The MAX3744 TIA, the MAX3748 LA, and the MAX3735/MAX3740 laser drivers form a 3-chip solution for SONET, Ethernet, and Fibre Channel SFP digital diagnostic modules.

The MAX3744 is designed for SFF-8472-compatible receiver modules. When DC-coupled to the MAX3748A limiting amplifier, the MAX3744 provides a receive-power-monitoring signal for digital diagnostic applications. This allows the implementation of digital diagnostics, while allowing the TIA to be packaged in a low-cost, 4-pin TO-46 header. The MAX3745 can be AC-coupled to other limiting amplifiers and does not provide the RSSI function.

Operating from a single 3.3V supply, the MAX3744/MAX3745 have 1.8GHz bandwidth and provide 3.5kΩ of gain, while consuming only 93mW of power. The TIAs have an input overload of 2mA and generate only 330nARMS of input referred noise. The MAX3744/MAX3745 have a 30kHz low-frequency cutoff and generate only 10ps of deterministic jitter at 2.125GHz.

The MAX3744/MAX3745 are available in 1.27mm x 0.76mm dice over the extended temperature range (-40°C to +85°C). Prices start at $3.50 (1000-up, FOB USA). Evaluation kits are available to speed design.
