ULTRA-HIGH-EFFICIENCY DUAL BUCK CONTROLLER FOR NEXT-GENERATION NOTEBOOK CPUs
SUNNYVALE, CA—January 7, 2000—Maxim Integrated Products introduces the MAX1715, a step-down, dual PWM controller that provides the high efficiency, excellent transient response, and high DC output accuracy needed for stepping down high-voltage batteries to generate low-voltage chipset and RAM power supplies in notebook computers.
The on-demand PWM controller is a free-running constant-on-time type with input feed-forward. This control algorithm provides ultra-fast transient response, wide input-output differential range, low supply current, and tight load regulation. It is simple and easy to compensate, and it doesnt have the noise sensitivity of conventional fixed-frequency current-mode PWMs.
The MAX1715 is intended for generating low-voltage supplies (CPU core and I/O, for example, or 1.8V chipset and 2.5V RAM.) The MAX1715 is offered in a small 28-pin QSOP package and is screened for the extended-temperature range (-40°C to +85°C). Prices for the MAX1715EEI start from $3.60 (1000-up, FOB USA). A preassembled evaluation kit (MAX1715EVKIT) with recommended external components is available to reduce design time.
