USB ON-THE-GO POWER PLUS SUPPORT ICs ARE IDEAL FOR PORTABLE APPLICATIONS
SUNNYVALE, CA-June 5, 2003-Maxim Integrated Products
(NASDAQ: MXIM) introduces the MAX3353E/MAX3355E USB On-The-Go (OTG) power plus support ICs. Ideal for portable equipment such as cellular phones, PDAs, and digital cameras, these devices are used in conjunction with dual-role USB controllers that contain host and peripheral functionality along with a USB transceiver. They provide the 5V VBUS power and support for dual-role controllers required by USB OTG applications. The internal charge pump creates a VBUS output from a VCC input between 2.6V and 5.5V that is USB OTG compliant.
The MAX3353E/MAX3355E contain detection circuitry for USB OTG functionality. Internal comparators detect VBUS voltage levels used for Host Negotiation Protocol and Session Request Protocol. The MAX3353E stores this information in registers accessible with an I2C interface. The MAX3355E outputs this information on the STATUS1 and STATUS2 pins. The MAX3353E/MAX3355E also provide ID detection for default host/peripheral assignment. Additionally, the MAX3353E features pullup and pulldown resistors required by USB.
The D+, D-, VBUS, and ID_IN pins are ±15kV ESD protected, eliminating the need for external protection structures. These pins are protected to ±15kV for the Human Body Model, ±8kV for the IEC1000-4-2 Contact Discharge Method, and ±15kV for the IEC1000-4-2 Air-Gap Discharge Method. The VL logic supply input on the MAX3353E/MAX3355E allows direct connection with ASIC/CPUs that operate down to +1.65V. These devices also feature a 0.4µA shutdown mode.
The MAX3353E/MAX3355E are available in chip-scale (UCSP) and TSSOP packages in the extended temperature range (-40°C to +85°C). The UCSP requires only 5.16mm2 of board space. Prices start at $1.21 (1000-up, FOB USA).
