0.5% ACCURATE MULTICHEMISTRY BATTERY CHARGERS FOR SINGLE- AND DUAL-BATTERY SYSTEMS
SUNNYVALE, CA-April 24, 2003-Maxim Integrated Products
(NASDAQ: MXIM) introduces the MAX1908/MAX1909, highly integrated, multichemistry battery chargers that simplify the construction of accurate, efficient chargers. The MAX1908/MAX1909 charge two to four lithium-ion (Li+) series cells, providing 4A of charging current. When charging, these devices automatically transition from regulating current to regulating voltage. Programmed by the host or hardwired, these devices use analog inputs to control charge current and voltage. These chargers achieve greater than 95% efficiency by using a Buck topology with synchronous rectification. The MAX1908/MAX1909's outputs monitor battery charging current, the presence of an AC adapter, and the currents drawn from it.
The MAX1908 is designed for high-end, dual-battery systems and uses high-side N-channel MOSFETs. The MAX1909 is designed for single-battery systems. If an AC adapter is present, the MAX1909 automatically selects between the AC adapter and the battery pack to supply the system.
The MAX1908/MAX1909 provide 0.5% accurate battery voltage regulation, which extends battery capacity and minimizes charging times. Additionally, these devices provide excellent control of charger parameters. The MAX1908/MAX1909 eliminate hot spots in the system with 5% accurate charge-current regulation and 3% accurate AC adapter current limiting using only 15m resistors.
The MAX1908/MAX1909 are packaged in a space-saving 28-pin QFN (5mm x 5mm) and are specified for the extended-industrial temperature range
(-40°C to +85°C). Prices start at $5.04 (1000-up, FOB USA).
