MAXIM OFFERS THE LOWEST COST, 60A VRM AND VRD 9.0/9.1 DC-DC CONTROLLER FOR DESKTOPS, NOTEBOOKS, AND BLADE SERVERS
SUNNYVALE, CA-September 4, 2002-Maxim Integrated Products
(NASDAQ: MXIM) introduces the MAX1938, a dual-phase pulse-width modulation (PWM) step-down DC-DC controller for lowest cost designs of CPU core supplies in desktops, notebooks, and blade servers. Maxim's proprietary Quick PWM architecture provides excellent transient response and significantly reduces the number, size and cost of output capacitors.
The MAX1938 is a highly-integrated dual-phase interleaved PWM controller with a wide input operating voltage of 8V to 24V. With Quick PWM architecture, the MAX1938 responds to a step load transient within 300ns, thus reducing the number of output capacitors. Additionally, 0.75% output accuracy and fast active voltage positioning further reduce output capacitors.
The MAX1938 uses 6V gate drivers which allow for fewer, less expensive MOSFETs compared to 5V gate drivers in competing integrated driver multiphase solutions. The MAX1938 provides remote output voltage sensing and allows for lossless current sensing, short-circuit shutdown, and overvoltage protection.
The MAX1938EEI comes in a space-saving 28-pin QSOP package. Prices start at $2.25 (1000-up, FOB USA). The MAX1938 is specified for the extended-industrial temperature range (-40°C to +85°C). Evaluation boards are available in VRM and VRD form factors to simplify design.
Quick PWM is a trademark of Maxim Integrated Products.
