LOW-POWER 16-BIT PARALLEL INTERFACE ADCs OFFER 165ksps PERFORMANCE

Note to Editor: The MAX1165/MAX1166 represent a milestone in ADCs. They are the smallest, lowest power, 16-bit parallel-interface ADCs on the market today. The byte-wide and 16-bit-wide digital interface runs independently from AVDD and can operate down to 2.7V.

The MAX1165/MAX1166 expand Maxim's high-performance ADC product line. Maxim's latest 16-bit parallel products represent a 48% footprint reduction from the closest competitor's parts. Not only do these high-performance ADCs meet the needs of the most demanding applications, but their low power and small size also make them ideal for portable/battery-powered applications.

SUNNYVALE, CA-August 22, 2002-Maxim Integrated Products introduces the MAX1165/MAX1166, 16-bit analog-to-digital converters (ADCs). These ADCs connect directly to microcontrollers and DSPs through a byte-wide or 16-bit parallel interface. Excellent AC performance (THD < -100dB) and DC accuracy (±2LSB INL) make them ideal for industrial process control, instrumentation, and medical applications.

The MAX1165/MAX1166 operate from a single 5V supply and feature a separate DVDD pin, which allows for direct interfacing to 2.7V to 5V digital logic. Low-power operation consumes only 3.2mA at the maximum conversion rate of 165ksps. Automatic shutdown between conversions reduces operating current to 1mA at 100ksps and further reduces supply current to less than 10µA at slower data rates. An internal 4.096V or external reference determines the full-scale analog input range.

The byte-wide MAX1166 is available in a 20-pin TSSOP package and the 16-bit-wide MAX1165 is available in a 28-pin TSSOP package in both the extended (-40°C to +85°C) and commercial (0°C to +70°C) temperature ranges. Prices start at $8.04 (1000-up, FOB USA).
