Note to Editor: The MAX1162 expands Maxim's 16-bit ADC offering and continues our emphasis on the highest performance ADCs. This ADC is available in a 10-pin leadless DFN and a 10-pin µMAX package. It is the smallest, 16-bit, monotonic SAR. The MAX1162 provides great flexibility with a separate reference input and logic supply—neither of which are available on the competitor's smaller SOT23 product. (NASDAQ: MXIM) introduces the MAX1162 16-bit A/D converter. This serially interfaced ADC connects directly to SPI™, QSPI™, and MICROWIRE™ devices without additional interface logic. Excellent AC performance (THD < -102dB) and DC accuracy (±2LSB INL, 16 bits, no missing codes) make the MAX1162 ideal for industrial process control, instrumentation, and medical applications. Additionally, the MAX1162 has been optimized for portable applications with low power (12.5mW at 200ksps) in a small footprint (10-pin µMAX or a 3mm x 3mm 10-pin DFN package).
The MAX1162 operates from a single 5V supply and features a separate DVDD pin, which allows for direct interfacing to 2.375V to 5V digital logic. It consumes only 3mA at its maximum conversion rate of 200ksps. AutoShutdown™ between conversions reduces operating current to 1mA at 100ksps and further reduces supply current to less than 10µA at slower data rates. The external reference input pin allows the use of high-accuracy references for precision measurements.
The MAX1162 is offered in a 10-pin µMAX or 10-pin DFN package in both the extended (-40°C to +85°C) and commercial (0°C to +70°C) temperature grades with prices starting at $7.39 (1000-up, FOB USA). Contact factory for pricing and availability of the DFN package.
