LOWEST COST, TRACKING, SOURCING AND SINKING STEP-DOWN CONTROLLER FOR DDR TERMINATION AND PowerPC SUPPLIES
SUNNYVALE, CA-June 3, 2002-Maxim Integrated Products introduces the MAX1957, 300kHz, synchronous, current-mode, tracking, sinking and sourcing step-down controller. The MAX1957 is an ideal low-cost solution for DDR memory termination (VTT) in desktops, game consoles, graphic and video cards, set-top boxes, and core supplies in PowerPC/ASIC/DSP applications. Additionally, the MAX1957 and MAX1954 provide a complete solution for DDR memory and PowerPC power supplies.
The MAX1957 addresses low-input 3.3V and 5V bus applications without the need for a charge pump. The MAX1957 can track the voltage at the external reference pin within ±1%. Fast-transient response ensures that the MAX1957 and MAX1954 meet the ±40mV transient regulation JEDEC specs for DDR memory power supplies.
The MAX1957 allows a low-cost N-channel design and is compatible with inexpensive electrolytic capacitors. Thermal-overload protection provides for a rugged power-supply design. The MAX1957 features current-limit and short-circuit protection without expensive current-sense resistors. Internal digital soft-start reduces inrush current.
The MAX1957EUB comes in a tiny 10-pin µMAX package. Prices start at $0.95 (1000-up, FOB USA). The MAX1957 is specified for the extended-industrial temperature range (-40°C to +85°C). Evaluation kits and application circuits are available to speed designs.
