NEW LOW-POWER, DIFFERENTIAL MICROPHONE AMPS WITH MUX, BIAS, AND SHUTDOWN IN A TINY 8-PIN QFN

SUNNYVALE, CA-May 28, 2002-Maxim Integrated Products introduces the MAX4060/MAX4061/MAX4062 microphone amplifiers. These parts provide a complete, low-power solution including integrated low-noise mic bias, input multiplexer, Rail-to-Rail® differential inputs, shutdown mode, and tiny packaging. The MAX4060/MAX4061/MAX4062 offer high 86dB PSRR eliminating the need for an external LDO. They also offer high 70dB CMRR and fixed or adjustable gain options. Differential inputs reject common-mode noise, making it possible to accurately amplify low-level microphone signals-especially important in noisy environments such as cell phone and notebooks, or where the microphone is physically placed some distance from the amplifier.

The MAX4060 operates from a single 4.5V to 5.5V supply and can select between two microphone sources. It has a low-noise mic bias and a fixed 20dB gain path, minimizing external components. It is ideally suited to notebook and portable audio devices, offering improved performance and pin-to-pin compatibility over the CMAMP110. The MAX4061/MAX4062 operate from a single 2.4V to 5.5V supply, have externally adjustable gains, and optional configurations that include an input multiplexer, low-noise mic bias, and shutdown, allowing the user to pick the optimum set of features. They are ideally suited to PDAs, cell phones, notebooks, and portable audio devices.

The MAX4060/MAX4061 are available in 8-pin QFN (3mm x 3mm) and 8-pin µMAX packages. The MAX4062 is available in a 10-pin µMAX package. Specifications are guaranteed over a -40°C to +85°C temperature range. An easy-to-use EV kit is available. Prices for the MAX4060 start at $0.35 (100,000-up, FOB USA).
