LOWEST COST 25A CURRENT-MODE STEP-DOWN CONTROLLER FOR GRAPHIC CARDS, SET-TOP BOXES, AND GAME CONSOLES

SUNNYVALE, CA-May 9, 2002-Maxim Integrated Products introduces the MAX1954, 300kHz, synchronous, current-mode, step-down controller. The MAX1954 lowers cost in applications such as game consoles, printers, graphic and video cards, RAID cards, and personal computers.

With a wide 3V to 14V input range, the MAX1954 is suitable for 3.3V/5V/12V bus applications. The device features current-limit and short-circuit protection without current-sense resistors. Internal digital soft-start reduces inrush current.

The MAX1954 has an all N-channel design that reduces cost as well as powerful gate drivers that allow a wide range of output currents (up to 25A) with 93% peak efficiency. The output voltage range extends from 0.8V to 0.86 x VIN. Thermal-overload protection provides for a rugged power-supply design.

The MAX1954EUB comes in a tiny 10-pin µMAX package. Prices start at $0.95 (1000-up, FOB USA). The MAX1954 is specified for the extended-industrial temperature range (-40°C to +85°C). Evaluation kits and application circuits are available to speed designs.
