PROGRAMMABLE-GAIN CABLE UPSTREAM AMPLIFIER OPERATES FROM 3.3V

SUNNYVALE, CA-May 7, 2002-Maxim Integrated Products introduces the MAX3503 programmable-gain cable upstream amplifier IC designed for cable modem and CATV set-top box applications. The MAX3503 offers industry-leading features and performance while operating from a single 3.3V power-supply voltage. The MAX3503 offers DOCSIS- and EuroDOCSIS-compliant performance while achieving a low transmit-disable mode power consumption of less than 20mW. This low "off-state" power consumption is an advantage for cable telephony applications.

In cable modem designs that use newer silicon tuners operating from 3.3V power supplies, the MAX3503 offers a distinct advantage: it allows the complete elimination of the 5V rail, saving board space and money. Additionally, when used with traditional 5V can tuners, the MAX3503 eases supply filtering requirements by removing upstream amplifier power-switching noise from the tuner supply line.

The MAX3503 is available in a 5mm x 5mm 24-pin QFN package and operates from a 3.3V supply over the -40°C to +85°C temperature range. Prices start at $2.24 (1000-up, FOB USA). Evaluation kits are available.

DOCSIS and EuroDOCSIS are trademarks of Cable Labs.
