LOW-POWER, COMPACT 3.3V, 2.5Gbps LIMITING AMPLIFIER
SUNNYVALE, CA-February 26, 2002-Maxim Integrated Products introduces the MAX3272 3.3V, 2.5Gbps limiting amplifier with a programmable loss-of-signal indicator. The MAX3271 transimpedance amplifier, the MAX3272 limiting amplifier, and the MAX3273 laser driver form a three-chip solution for fiber-optic modules. Manufactured using Maxims second-generation in-house SiGe process, the MAX3272 has a small footprint, ultra-low power consumption, and selectable squelch functionality. It is ideal for applications in OC-48/STM-16 transmission systems such as add/drop multiplexers and digital cross-connects.
Operating from a single 3.3V supply, the MAX3272 features a 15mV input sensitivity and 220µVRMS input-referred noise, while consuming only 110mW of power. It has a programmable signal-detect function that can be set to different assert and deassert levels, while typically maintaining a 3.3dB hysteresis. The MAX3272 features low 5ps deterministic jitter and only 3psRMS random jitter. It can accept input voltages from 15mV to 1200mV, and typically provides a 750mV output.
Packaged in a 4mm x 4mm 20-pin QFN, the MAX3272 operates over the extended temperature range (-40°C to +85°C). Prices start at $9.00 (1000-up, FOB USA). Evaluation kits are available.
