DIGITALLY CONTROLLED PRECISION INSTRUMENTATION AMPLIFIER NETWORK ALLOWS USER CHOICE OF ANY AMPLIFIER

SUNNYVALE, CA-February 19, 2002-Maxim Integrated Products introduces the MAX5426, a digitally controlled precision resistor network for use with programmable instrumentation amplifiers configured in the traditional three op-amp instrumentation amplifier topology. This new device provides digitally programmable gains of 1, 2, 4, or 8, and guarantees gain accuracy to 0.025% (A grade) over the -40°C to +85°C temperature range. The MAX5426 integrates precisely trimmed resistors and switches into a small 6.4mm x 5mm TSSOP package, eliminating the need for discrete resistor arrays and switches, and offering improved temperature stability and resistor matching. This allows for precision gain settings over temperature and high common-mode rejection.

The MAX5426 integrates the precision resistors and analog switches needed to implement a programmable instrumentation amplifier. Op amps have not been included to allow users to choose the ideal op amps for their application.

The MAX5426 offers three accuracy grades: 0.025% (A grade), 0.09% (B grade), and 0.5% (C grade). It operates from dual ±5V to ±15V supplies, uses less than 80µA of supply current, and has a simple CMOS/TTL-logic- compatible 2-wire parallel interface to set the gain. Maxim’s advanced laser-trimming process results in a temperature coefficient as low as 1ppm/°C maximum (A grade).

Prices for the MAX5426 start at $5.85 for A grade, $3.95 for B grade, and $1.40 for C grade (1000-up, FOB USA).
