INDUSTRY’S SMALLEST 32-TAP LOGARITHMIC TAPER DIGITAL POTENTIOMETER

SUNNYVALE, CA-February 11, 2002-Maxim Integrated Products introduces the MAX5407 logarithmic taper digital potentiometer. This tiny digital pot is packaged in an 8-pin SOT23, offering nearly 50% size reduction compared to similar devices in 8-pin MSOP packages. Its small 3mm x 3mm footprint saves board space in size-critical applications. Designed to replace the cumbersome mechanical potentiometers, the MAX5407 adds the useful feature of digital programmability. This new digital pot offers 0 to –31dB gain adjustment range suitable for audio applications such as adjusting audio volume, and fading or balancing audio signals.

The MAX5407 offers many advantages. Included is a zero-crossing detection circuit to eliminate audible clicking when switching resistor taps. An easy-to-use 2-wire serial interface consisting of Chip Select and Up/Down makes incrementing and decrementing wiper positions simple. The 0.35µA supply current consumes less than 0.3µW, making these ideal for battery-powered applications. The end-to-end and ratiometric resistor temperature coefficients are a low 35ppm/°C and 5ppm/°C, respectively.

Prices for the MAX5407 in 8-pin SOT23 start at $0.50 (25,000-up, FOB USA).
