12-BIT AND 14-BIT DACs OFFER 1LSB INL AND ELIMINATE POWER-UP GLITCH

SUNNYVALE, CA—May 12, 1999—Maxim Integrated Products introduces the MAX5170 to MAX5177 serial-input/voltage-output, 12- and 14-bit digital-to-analog converters (DACs) featuring proprietary on-chip circuitry that eliminates power-up glitch. Unlike other DACs that generate an undesirable voltage glitch of 2V to 3V at the output during power-up, the MAX5170 to MAX5177 keep the output voltage virtually "glitch free" (to less than 5mV). These devices also guarantee monotonicity with ±1LSB max differential nonlinearity and ±1LSB integral nonlinearity at 14-bit resolution.

These low-power devices operate from a single +3V or +5V supply and draw a maximum of only 350µA of supply current, which reduces to 1µA in power-down mode. In addition, a power-up reset feature allows for a user-selectable initial output state of either zero or midscale. The user-accessible inverting input and output of the amplifier allow specific gain configurations, remote sensing, and high-output-drive capability for a wide range of force/sense applications. The buffered output is capable of driving 5k ohm | | 100pF or 4–20mA loads.

These SPI™ , QSPI™, and MICROWIRE™ compatible serial interface devices are offered in space-saving 16-pin QSOP packages. This family contains eight devices. The voltage output versions are the 12-bit MAX5174/MAX5176 and the 14-bit MAX5170/MAX5172. The force/sense versions are the 12-bit MAX5175/MAX5177 and the 14-bit MAX5171/MAX5173. Prices start from $3.15 (1000-up, FOB USA).
