REFERENCE CLOCK JITTER FILTER FOR TRANSPONDER MODULE APPLICATIONS
Note to editor: The MAX3670 is a significant new product. It is the only reference clock generator capable of a low-jitter transfer bandwidth range of 15Hz to 20kHz.
SUNNYVALE, CA-November 28, 2001-Maxim Integrated Products introduces the MAX3670 low-jitter 155MHz to 670MHz reference clock generator IC designed for system clock distribution and frequency synchronization in OC-12 to OC-192 SDH/SONET and WDM transport systems. The MAX3670 offers industry-leading features and performance with minimal impact on board area and power budgets. Its low intrinsic jitterless than 0.4psRMSand settable jitter transfer bandwidth enable low-jitter data transmissions from a clean reference clock. The MAX3670 consumes only 150mW at a +3.3V supply.
The MAX3670 saves board space by integrating a phase/frequency detector, an operational amplifier, prescaler dividers, and input/output buffers. Using an external VCO, it can easily be configured as a phase-locked loop with bandwidth programmable from 15Hz to 20kHz for filtering jitter in transponder applications. The MAX3670 accepts VCO frequencies of 155MHz to 670MHz, and provides a PECL clock output with an optional dividable clock output.
The MAX3670 is available in a 5mm x 5mm 32-pin QFN package and operates from a +3.3V or +5.0V supply over an extended temperature range of -40°C to +85°C. The MAX3670 is priced at $19.97 (1000-up, FOB USA). Evaluation kits are available.
