FIRST DUAL TEMPERATURE-CONTROLLED DAC

DALLAS, TX-November 13, 2001-Dallas Semiconductor introduces the DS1851 dual temperature-controlled digital-to-analog converter (DAC). It is the first DAC with integrated direct-to-digital temperature sensor and nonvolatile lookup tables. The device can be programmed with user-defined temperature coefficients, allowing the most challenging temperature-to-voltage transfer functions to be easily obtained. The 13-bit direct-to-digital temperature sensor output provides the address to each NV lookup table, which in turn provides the values presented to the two independent DAC outputs.

The DS1851 provides an ideal method for setting and temperature-compensating bias voltages and currents in control applications using a minimum of external circuitry. The user-defined settings for both DACs are stored in two EEPROM lookup tables and can be accessed over the industry-standard 2-wire serial bus, which consists of SDA and SCL pins. These lookup tables can assign a unique output value to each DAC for every 4°C increment over the -40°C to +95°C range. The output of the digital temperature sensor is also available as a 12-bit, two’s complement value over the serial bus.

The DS1851 is available in a standard 14-pin TSSOP (173mil) package as well as the 14-pin Flip Chip and operates over the full industrial temperature range. Prices start at $1.46 (1000-up, FOB USA).
