LOW-POWER, COMPACT +3.3V, 10.3Gbps LIMITING AMPLIFIER
SUNNYVALE, CA-September 26, 2001-Maxim Integrated Products introduces the MAX3971 +3.3V, 10.3Gbps, and limiting amplifier for use in 10Gb Ethernet optical receivers. With the MAX3970 (10.3Gbps TIA), the MAX3971 forms a 2-chip solution for fiber-optic receiver modules. Manufactured using Maxims second-generation in-house SiGe process, the MAX3971UGP has a small foot-print, ultra-low power consumption, and excellent jitter performance.
Operating from a single +3.3V supply, the MAX3971 has an input sensitivity of 9.5mVp-p and input overload of 800mVp-p, while consuming only 155mW of power. The MAX3971 accepts differential CML signals and provides a differential CML output with edge speeds of 20ps. The limiting amplifier generates only 3.4ps of deterministic jitter and only 0.7ps of random jitter.
Available in a 4mm x 4mm 20-pin QFN package or as die in the 0°C to +85°C temperature range, the MAX3273 is priced at $69.90 (1000-up, suggested resale, FOB USA). Evaluation kits are available.
