STANDARD-DEFINITION VIDEO RECONSTRUCTION FILTER AND BUFFER IN A SOT23

SUNNYVALE, CA-September 4, 2001-Maxim Integrated Products introduces the MAX7428 video reconstruction filter and buffer. The MAX7428 combines a 6th-order, continuous-time, lowpass filter with high-frequency boost circuitry, a 2:1 input multiplexer, a filter bypass switch, and an output buffer capable of driving two standard 150 video loads in an 8-pin SOT23 package. The preprogrammed filter characteristic supports NTSC, PAL, and standard definition (SDTV) video signals making the MAX7428 ideal for anti-aliasing and DAC smoothing in digital video devices such as cable set-top boxes, satellite set-top boxes, DVD players, camcorders, and personal video recorders (PVRs).

The MAX7428 is ideal for standard composite video (CVBS) as well as Y/C and Y Pr Pb (RGB) video interfaces through the use of two and three MAX7428s, respectively. The MAX7428 achieves 50dB of attenuation at 27MHz with only ±0.25dB of passband ripple from DC to 5.5MHz. High-frequency boost circuitry provides picture sharpness adjustment by allowing up to 1.5dB of gain boost in 0.5dB increments without degradation in the stopband attenuation.

A novel one-pin interface controls the 2:1 input multiplexer, output disable, high-frequency boost, and filter bypass switch. By assigning a bus address through the use of a capacitor connected to REXT, up to 16 MAX7428s may share the same one-wire bus and be individually addressed, allowing each channel to be independently configured.

The MAX7428 saves significant space while providing increased performance at a cost comparable to the standard discrete L-R-C filter and buffer solutions used today. The MAX7428 is offered in an 8-pin SOT23 package in the extended (-40°C to +85°C) temperature range, with prices starting at $0.90 (1000-up, FOB USA).
