TRIPLE LOW-NOISE, LOW-DROPOUT LINEAR REGULATORS PROVIDE COMPLETE RF POWER

SUNNYVALE, CA-August 16, 2001-Maxim Integrated Products introduces the MAX8890, with three identical 100mA, low-noise linear regulators in a low-profile, 4mm x 4mm x 0.85mm, 12-pin QFN package. Their 67dB PSRR, low-crosstalk voltage (4µ Vp-p at 10kHz), and 45µVRMS noise make them ideal for the noise-sensitive RF sections of cellular phones and wireless PDAs. Low 50mV dropout at 100mA load maximizes battery life.

The input voltage range is 2.5V to 5.5V. Output voltages are independently preset from 1.8V to 3.3V in 50mV increments, and have ±1% accuracy. Each regulator has its own logic-controlled enable pin which cuts supply current down to 0.1µA in shutdown. All output and input capacitors are ceramic. In a typical application, one output would power the transmitter, receiver, and synthesizer, another output would power the TCXO and VCO (temperature-controlled and voltage-controlled oscillators). The third output would power the UHF offset VCO.

The QFN package dissipates 1.35W. The IC also has built-in thermal protection if the die temperature rises above +160°C, and has short-circuit protection on each output.

The MAX8890EGC is screened for the extended-industrial temperature range (-40°C to +85°C). Prices start at $0.99 (1000-up, FOB USA, recommended resale).
