DUAL 256-TAP DIGITAL POTS USE ONLY 1µA AND COME IN TINY 10-PIN µMAX
SUNNYVALE, CA-February 8, 2001-Maxim Integrated Products announces the MAX5403/MAX5404/MAX5405 and MAX5413/MAX5414/MAX5415, dual 256-tap digital potentiometers in 10-pin µMAX (5mm x 3mm) and 14-pin TSSOP (6.4mm x 5mm) packages. Both offer factory-set resistance values of 10 kilohms, 50 kilohms, and 100 kilohms. These small devices are excellent alternatives for mechanical trim potentiometers, eliminating the need for mechanical adjustment and adding digital programmability to new designs. Other useful applications include programmable gain amplifiers and VCO adjustment.
The MAX5403/MAX5404/MAX5405 and MAX5413/MAX5414/MAX54155 use less than 1µA of supply current, making them ideal for battery-powered devices. A low 35ppm/°C end-to-end resistor tempco and 5ppm/°C ratiometric tempco make these parts suitable for high-precision applications. A power-on reset sets the wiper to midscale (position 128) when power is first applied. The make-before-break contacts allow glitchless switching between taps. An SPI compatible 3-wire interface serially loads data. The MAX5403/MAX5404/MAX5405 contain a three-terminal potentiometer and a two-terminal variable resistor. The MAX5413/MAX5414/MAX5415 contain two three-terminal potentiometers. Prices for the MAX5403/MAX5404/MAX5405 and MAX5413/MAX5414/MAX5415 start at $1.60 (1000-up, FOB USA).
