SIMPLE SOT23 STEP-UP CONTROLLERS USE FEWEST COMPONENTS
SUNNYVALE, CA-February 8, 2001-Maxim Integrated Products introduces the MAX1522/MAX1523/MAX1524 DC-DC controllers, which are used to build the simplest and smallest step-up circuits in portable and nonportable equipment. These SOT23 controllers have a built-in digital soft-start which eliminates inrush current spikes that shorten useful battery life. Soft-start permits a smaller input capacitor, saving space and cost. These devices also eliminate the sense resistor to increase efficiency while saving space and cost. Finally, they switch at up to 1MHz, which permits use of a small inductor, further saving space and cost.
The MAX1522/MAX1523/MAX1524 devices save battery life with their 90% conversion efficiency and low 25µA quiescent supply current. Their operating input range is +2.5V to +5.5V, and the MAX1524 has a guaranteed startup of +1.5V when bootstrapped from the output. The output voltage and power is limited only by the user's choice of an external N-channel MOSFET power switch, and typical applications are up to +30V at up to 5W.
The MAX1522/MAX1523/MAX1524 are screened for the extended-industrial temperature range (-40°C to +85°C) and come in a 6-pin SOT23 package. Prices are $1.07 (1000-up, US recommended resale). The MAX1522EVKIT evaluation kit is available to speed designs.
