PRECISION SMART SENSOR SIGNAL CONDITIONER PROVIDES 16-BIT CORRECTION
SUNNYVALE, CA-December 6, 2000-Maxim Integrated Products introduces the MAX1452, a highly integrated, precision, 16-bit smart sensor signal conditioner that is capable of digitally correcting sensor outputs over a wide temperature range.
The MAX1452 is a highly integrated analog-sensor signal processor optimized for use with resistive element sensors. The MAX1452 provides amplification, calibration, and temperature compensation that enables an overall performance approaching the inherent repeatability of the sensor. The MAX1452 allows the customer to select from a variety of high level outputs including 4mA to 20mA, 0 to +5V (rail-to-rail), +0.5V to +4.5V (ratiometric), and +2.5V to ±2.5V.
The MAX1452 accommodates sensors with outputs ranging from 1mV/V to 40mV/V and supports both current and voltage sensor excitation. Temperature compensation can be optimized to suit specific sensor or application requirements. The number of compensation points can range from a simple, two-point, first-order temperature correction to multipoint temperature correction every 1.5°C over the operating range of the device.
The fully analog signal-path introduces no quantization noise in the output signal while enabling digitally controlled trimming with the integrated 16-bit DACs. Sensors are calibrated and compensated through a single-pin digital programming interface and correction values can be "locked-in" memory with Maxim’s proprietary Secure-Lock™ data-retention technique.
The MAX1452 architecture includes a programmable sensor excitation, a 16-step programmable-gain amplifier (PGA), a 768-byte (6144 bits) internal EEPROM, four 16-bit DACs, an uncommitted op amp, and an on-chip temperature sensor.
Furthermore, with a dedicated cell library of more than 150 sensor-specific functional blocks, Maxim can quickly customize the MAX1452 for unique requirements of high-volume applications. The MAX1452 is offered in a space-saving 5.38mm x 6.33mm 16-pin SSOP package, with prices starting at $2.95 (1000-up, FOB USA).
