NEW 3.3V, 2.7Gbps DUAL 2x2 CROSSPOINT SWITCH SIMPLIFIES DWDM PROTECTION SWITCHING

SUNNYVALE, CA-November 29, 2000-Maxim Integrated Products expands its system interconnect product line with the new MAX3840, a +3.3V dual-path crosspoint switch for signals up to 2.7GHz. Maxim’s second-generation, in-house SiGe process technology enables incredibly low jitter performance, fast edge speeds, and low power consumption at low cost. The device offers internal signal terminations and signal path redundancy for critical data streams, making the MAX3840 ideal for DWDM and SDH/SONET transport, digital cross-connect, and high-speed serial backplane applications where space is at a premium.

Each crosspoint can fan out and/or multiplex 2.7Gbps data and 2.7GHz clock signals. All CML inputs and outputs are internally terminated to 50Ω, and each CML output stage can be powered down when not in use to conserve power. Power consumption from a +3.3V supply with all output channels enabled is only 460mW. The fully differential architecture ensures low crosstalk and only 15ps channel-to-channel skew. Advanced SiGe process technology provides 100ps rise and fall times and low jitter-only 7ps deterministic jitter and only 2psRMS random jitter.

The MAX3840 is available in a 32-pin QFN package and operates from a +3.3V supply over the -40°C to +85°C temperature range. The MAX3840 is priced at $17.95 (1000-up, factory direct, FOB, USA). Evaluation kits are available.
