200mA ULTRA-LOW-QUIESCENT-CURRENT LDOs IN SOT23
SUNNYVALE, CA—November 10, 2000—Maxim Integrated Products introduces the MAX8880/MAX8881 ultra-low-supply-current, 200mA SOT23 low-dropout linear regulators intended for portable applications that demand the longest possible battery life. Unlike inferior PNP-based designs, these devices have PMOS pass elements to maintain an ultra-low supply current of just 3.5µA throughout their entire operating range and in dropout. Despite their ultra-low power consumption, the MAX8880/MAX8881 deliver 200mA, have tight output accuracy (±2%), and require just 1µF output capacitance to achieve excellent load-transient response. Other features include a wide input voltage range (+2.5V to +12V), reverse battery protection, short-circuit protection, and thermal protection. Their small size, high output current, and ultra-low quiescent supply current make these devices perfect for µP and DSP supplies in wireless handsets, PDAs, and other low-power handheld equipment.
The MAX8880 has an output voltage that is adjustable throughout the +1.25V to +5V range, while the MAX8881 is available in factory-preset +1.8V, +2.5V, +3.3V, and +5V output voltages.
The MAX8880/MAX8881 are available in tiny 6-pin SOT23 packages and are specified for the extended-industrial temperature range (-40°C to +85°C). Prices start at $0.86 (1000-up, FOB, USA).
