BUFFERED HIGH-SIDE CURRENT-SENSE AMPLIFIER IN TINY SOT23-5

SUNNYVALE, CA—July 27, 2000—Maxim Integrated Products announces the MAX4376T/F/H high-side current-sense amplifier with buffered output circuitry in a 6-pin SOT23 package (3mm x 3mm). Unlike other current-sensing techniques, this tiny device prevents the disruption of the circuit ground plane by employing a single external resistor between the power supply and the load. The combination of factory-trimmed gain and this external sense resistor allows the user to select the full-scale range of the measured current. The buffered output can now source 2µA of current, a 20-times improvement. Three factory-trimmed gains of 20V/V (MAX4376T), 50V/V (MAX4376F) and 100V/V (MAX4376H) are available.

The MAX4376T/F/H supply voltage ranges from +3V to +28V. The circuit architecture allows the input common-mode voltage to range from 0V to 28V, independent of the supply voltage. Ground sensing inputs maintain linearity and keep the phase of the output from reversing when the input common-mode voltage is near ground. This feature is useful during power-up or power-down transients or during some input fault conditions. The MAX4376T/F/H achieves a ±0.05% full-scale accuracy. A bandwidth of 2.0MHz (AV = 20V/V) makes the device useful in closed-loop current control applications.

Offered in a space-saving 5-pin SOT23 and 8-pin SO packages, the MAX4376T/F/H starts at $0.77 (1000-up, factory direct, FOB USA).
