SUNNYVALE, CA—March 9, 2009—Maxim Integrated Products (NASDAQ: MXIM) introduces the MAX9519, the industry's smallest, lowest pin-count video filter amplifier for standard-definition (SD) video connections from portable devices to TVs. Packaged in a 1mm x 1mm, 4-bump UCSP™, this device features Maxim's proprietary SmartSleep technology,* which reduces current consumption to 1µA in shutdown mode and eliminates the need for external shutdown circuitry. The MAX9519 is ideal for low-power, space-constrained portable applications—such as cell phones, digital still/video cameras, and portable media players—that require SD video output to a TV.
The MAX9519 employs SmartSleep technology to intelligently manage power consumption with no external intervention from a host processor or microcontroller. SmartSleep circuitry constantly monitors the video input for a valid video signal and the video output for the presence of a load. The MAX9519 only turns on and enters its full operating mode when it detects both video playback and a live connection to the TV. In shutdown mode, this circuitry disables the filter and output amplifier, reducing power consumption to an ultra-low 1µA. At 1mm x 1mm, the MAX9519 consumes 30% less board space than competitive active-filter amplifiers, and 50% less space than passive-filter solutions.
Featuring a higher-order filter than competitive devices, the MAX9519 achieves much better attenuation of high-frequency artifacts and noise in the video-output signal. The integrated 5th-order filter features ±1dB passband flatness up to 9MHz and 48.5dB attenuation at 27MHz, thereby ensuring signal integrity in ultra-compact designs.
The MAX9519 operates from a 2.7V to 3.6V supply and is fully specified over the -40°C to +125°C temperature range. Prices start at $0.34 (1000-up, FOB USA).
