SUNNYVALE, CA—June 16, 2008—Maxim Integrated Products (PINK OTC MARKETS: MXIM) introduces the MAX17062/MAX17067 single-channel, step-up DC-DC converters with an integrated FET. Designed on Maxim's proprietary BiCMOS process, these devices provide high current density, increased voltage capacity, and improved efficiency for advanced LCD applications. To ensure highly efficient operation and excellent transient response, the MAX17062/MAX17067 employ current-mode, fixed-frequency, pulse-width modulation (PWM) circuitry with a built-in, n-channel power MOSFET. The current-mode architecture provides fast transient response to dynamic loads, and the high-voltage internal MOSFET can generate output voltages up to 20V from an input of 2.6V to 5.5V. This combination of efficiency and performance makes these boost converters ideal for LCD-panel TV, notebook, and monitor applications.
The MAX17067 also incorporates a unique input-clamping circuit to help protect the device's internal control circuitry from the input-voltage transients that can be found in many LCD production facilities. With an external resistor, the MAX17067's internal clamping circuit reduces current to the input during a high-input-voltage transient condition. This feature eliminates the cost of external clamping circuitry, or the use of products with input-voltage ratings higher than required for normal operation.
The MAX17062 is available in a small (3mm x 3mm), low-profile (0.8mm), 10-pin TDFN package, and the MAX17067 is available in a small, 8-pin µMAX® package. Both devices are fully specified over the -40°C to +85°C extended temperature range. Prices start at $2.94 (1000-up, FOB USA). An evaluation kit is available with recommended external components to reduce design time.
