SUNNYVALE, CA—June 4, 2007—Maxim Integrated Products (NASDAQ: MXIM) introduces the MAX13036 automotive contact monitor and level shifter. The MAX13036 monitors and debounces eight remote mechanical switches while consuming a meager 17µA (typ) supply current. The low supply current is a result of innovative ultra-low-current design techniques, as well as the use of programmable polling periods. The device's low current consumption combined with a wide input-voltage range (±45V), high ±8kV ESD protection on switch inputs, and adjustable wetting current make the MAX13036 ideal for applications within harsh automotive environments, such as body computers, window lifters, electric sunroofs, and other electronic control units (ECUs).

To minimize the overall current consumption of the ECU, the MAX13036 features an open-drain interrupt output that is active in the absence of a logic supply and can be used to wake up an external microcontroller from a sleep state. Each switch can be individually programmed to generate an interrupt through the device's SPI™-compatible interface.

The MAX13036 provides the customer a complete solution for mechanical switch interfacing. All eight switch inputs feature programmable wetting current and switching hysteresis. Four inputs are for ground-connected switches, and the remaining four inputs can be programmed in groups of two as battery-connected or ground-connected switches. In addition, two switch inputs can be configured to be direct level-shifting outputs for use with PWM or other timing-related inputs.

The high modularity of this device maximizes system flexibility, as multiple MAX13036s can be cascaded to monitor additional switches.

The MAX13036 operates from a 6V to 26V battery voltage and withstands 42V load-dump; a separate 2.7V to 5.5V logic-supply input sets the interface voltage. Available in an RoHS-compliant, lead-free, 5mm x 5mm, 28-pin TQFN package, this device is fully specified over the -40°C to +125°C automotive temperature range. An evaluation kit is available to speed designs. Prices start at $1.83 (1000-up, FOB USA).
