NEW 3.3V, 622Mbps DUAL 4:2 CROSSPOINT SWITCH MAKES INTERCONNECTIONS FLEXIBLE

SUNNYVALE, CA—March 31, 2000—Maxim Integrated Products is expanding its system interconnect product line with the new MAX3640, a +3.3V dual-path crosspoint switch for use at OC-12 (622Mbps) data rates. The MAX3640 can be used to receive and transmit 622Mbps LVDS signals across a backplane with minimum jitter accumulation. The device offers signal-path redundancy for critical data streams, making it ideal for SONET/SDH backplanes, digital cross-connects, and high-speed parallel links.

Each path of the MAX3640 incorporates input buffers, multiplexers, a 2x2 crosspoint switch, and output drivers. The four output channels have redundant outputs for test or fanning purposes. When four output channels have been de-selected, the output drivers will be powered down to reduce power consumption by 165mW, a unique power-saving feature. Power consumption with four output channels enabled is only 257mW. The fully differential architecture ensures low crosstalk, signal skew, and jitter accumulation: only 2.8psRMS output random jitter and 42ps output deterministic jitter.

The MAX3640 is available in a 48-pin TQFP package and operates from a +3.3V supply over a temperature range of 0°C to +85°C. The MAX3640 is priced from $9.99 (1000-up, factory direct, FOB USA). Evaluation kits are available.
