4V to 40V Input, 50mA LDO Regulators Consume Only 10µA of Quiescent Current

SUNNYVALE, CA—January 2, 2007—Maxim Integrated Products (NASDAQ: MXIM) introduces the MAX15006/MAX15007 ultra-low quiescent current, high-voltage, low-dropout (LDO) linear regulators. Designed for harsh automotive environments, the MAX15006/MAX15007 can operate from a cold-crank voltage as low as 4V and withstand load-dump transients as high as 45V. Both devices deliver up to 50mA of output current and have an ultra-low 10µA (typ) quiescent current at no load. An internal p-channel pass transistor keeps the quiescent current as low as 90µA (typ), even with a 50mA load. Additionally, the MAX15007 consumes only 3µA of quiescent current in shutdown. The ultra-low quiescent current of these devices makes them ideal for use in battery-operated systems and "always-on" automotive applications, such as remote keyless entry (RKE), receiver modules for tire pressure monitoring, and power-supply modules for "keep-alive" circuits.

The MAX15006/MAX15007 include robust short-circuit protection.The output of each regulator can be shorted to ground for an indefinite duration, even with an input voltage as high as 40V. In addition, both devices include thermal shutdown to protect the devices from excessive temperatures at the die.

The MAX15006/MAX15007 are specified for operation over the -40°C to +125°C automotive temperature range and are available in 3.3V or 5V output versions. These devices are packaged in a 3mm x 3mm, thermally enhanced 6-pin TDFN or a thermally enhanced 8-pin SO that are capable of dissipating 1.9W and 1.86W, respectively, at an ambient temperature of +70°C.
