High-Current Drive VCOM Buffers Reduce Flicker in TFT-LCD Panels

|
SUNNYVALE, CA—November 6, 2006—Maxim Integrated Products (NASDAQ: MXIM) introduces the MAX9550/MAX9551/MAX9552 VCOM drive buffers for TFT-LCD panels that feature single-, dual-, and quad-channel VCOM amplifiers, respectively. The MAX9550/MAX9551/MAX9552 source and sink up to 800mA per channel to quickly restore the VCOM voltage, making them ideal for large panels. The MAX9550/MAX9551/MAX9552 family buffers use the high current to quickly settle the VCOM to within 0.1% in less than 2µs. This longer period of accurate VCOM helps reduce flicker.
The MAX9550/MAX9551/MAX9552 operate up to 20V for systems that require more than the typical 16.5V. They can directly drive the capacitive load in the VCOM layer without the need for a series isolation resistor. In addition these devices feature soft-start to reduce inrush current, output short-circuit protection, and thermal shutdown to sustain robust operation.
The MAX9550 is available in a space-saving, 5-pin thin SOT23 package and an 8-pin µMAX® package with an exposed paddle for high-power applications. The MAX9551 is available in an 8-pin µMAX package with an exposed paddle, and the MAX9552 is available in a 14-pin TSSOP package. All devices are specified over the -40°C to +85°C temperature range.
