SIMPLIFY OVER/UNDERCURRENT PROTECTION WITH CURRENT-SENSE AMPS + COMPARATOR + REFERENCE IN TINY 10-PIN µMAX PACKAGE
SUNNYVALE, CA—March 2, 2000—Maxim Integrated Products introduces the MAX4373/4/5T/F/H micropower devices that combine a high-side current-sense amplifier, one or two internal comparators, and a reference in a tiny µMAX package (3mm x 5mm). This combination of components vastly simplifies the design of over/undercurrent protection circuits by including comparators and a reference for user-programmable thresholds. The combination of factory-trimmed gain and an external sense resistor allows the user to select the full range of the measured current. Three factory-trimmed gains are available: +20V/V (T version), +50V/V (F version), and +100V/V (H version).
The MAX4373T/F/H features a high-side current-sense amp, a comparator, and a reference that allows a single current threshold to be set. The MAX4374/MAX4375T/F/H add an additional comparator to allow for multiple thresholds and over/under thresholds; the second comparator can also be used to monitor a system supply voltage. All devices operate from a +2.7V to +28V supply and draw only 60µA of supply current while achieving a 200kHz bandwidth (AV = +20V/V). The circuit architecture allows the input common-mode voltage to range from 0V to 28V, independent of the supply voltage. Ground sensing inputs maintain linearity and keep the output phase from reversing when the input common-mode voltage is near ground. This feature is useful during power-up or power-down transients and during some input fault conditions.
The MAX4373T/F/H are offered in space-saving 8-pin µMAX and 8-pin SO packages, while the MAX4374/5T/F/H are offered in 10-pin µMAX and 14-pin SO packages. Prices start from $1.15 (1000-up, factory direct, FOB USA).
