Audio Amplifier with Integrated, Automatic Level Control Protects Speakers and Improves Sound Quality
SUNNYVALE, CA-November 4, 2005-Maxim Integrated Products (NASDAQ: MXIM) introduces the MAX9756 integrated 2W audio amplifier optimized for applications such as notebook PCs, small flat-panel displays, and portable DVD/media players. The MAX9756 features Maxim's innovative automatic level control which increases average output power while reducing distortion and protecting the loud speakers. Together with the unique automatic level control, the MAX9756 combines a 150mA LDO and the Company's DirectDrive™ headphone amplifier technology into a low-cost, low-component-count audio amplifier solution.
The MAX9756's 150mA LDO provides a clean power source for external components such as a DAC or CODEC. A DC volume-control input provides full gain control. The DirectDrive technology produces a ground-referenced output from a single supply, eliminating the two bulky DC-blocking capacitors typically required between the amplifier and headphone. Industry-leading click-and-pop suppression eliminates audible transients on power and shutdown cycles.
The MAX9756 operates from a single 4.5V to 5.5V supply, produces up to 2W per channel, and features high 90dB PSRR and low 0.02% THD+N. The MAX9756 is available in a small, 36-pin TQFN (6mm x 6mm x 0.8mm) package and includes complete short-circuit and thermal-overload protection. Specifications are guaranteed over the extended -40°C to +85°C temperature range. Prices for the MAX9756ETX start at $1.10 (100,000-up, FOB USA).
