New Embedded Development Tool from Rowley Associates, CrossWorks, Simplifies Evaluation of the MAXQ™ 16-bit RISC Microcontrollers

DALLAS, TX-November 2, 2005-Dallas Semiconductor, a subsidiary of Maxim Integrated Products, Inc. (NASDAQ: MXIM), announces the availability of the Rowley Associates' CrossWorks embedded development tools for the Company's MAXQ 16-bit RISC family of microcontrollers. CrossWorks is a complete software development solution for initial design through final production. The CrossWorks C compiler is optimized for use with the MAXQ microcontroller's single-cycle architecture, which achieves the industry's best 3.7 normalized MIPS/mA with 20MIPS performance.

The recently introduced MAXQ2000 low-power microcontroller includes 64kBytes flash memory, 2kBytes SRAM, a 16-bit single-cycle hardware multiplier with 48-bit accumulate, a watchdog timer, two serial ports, an SPI(TM) master/slave port, three timers, external interrupts, and a 128-segment LCD controller.

The Rowley CrossWorks software includes an ANSI- and ISO-compliant C compiler, macro assembler, linker/locator, libraries, core simulator, flash downloader, JTAG debugger, and an integrated development environment named CrossStudio. The Rowley development environment integrates seamlessly with the MAXQ2000 evaluation (EV) kit (MAXQ2000-KIT), and will work with any future microcontroller EV kits.

Used in conjunction with CrossWorks, the MAXQ2000 EV kit creates the ideal platform to evaluate the capabilities of the MAXQ2000. Included in the MAXQ2000 kit is a complete set of software, hardware, sample code, and documentation to start designing with the MAXQ2000. The evaluation kit operates from a fixed or adjustable power supply, a DB-9 serial connector, an LCD display, interrupt switches, eight LEDs, and a JTAG programming interface for debug and application loading.

Rowley Associates provides programming tools, libraries, and consulting services for embedded systems.
