Low-Power, Dual/Quad, Buffered 8-Bit DACs with Nonvolatile Memory Have a High-Speed I2C Interface
|
Note to Editor:These are the industrys lowest power, buffered, nonvolatile, 8-bit, I2C DACs. The MAX5108*/MAX5109 and MAX5115/MAX5116 consume only 2mA supply current during write operations, while the closest nonvolatile DAC competitor consumes 3mA. These Maxim devices also consume only 20µA shutdown current, compared to the closest competitions 0.5mA of shutdown current. The MAX5108/MAX5109, MAX5115/MAX5116 are also the only nonvolatile DACs to feature the high-speed (400ksps) I2C** interface. |
SUNNYVALE, CA-March 7, 2005-Maxim Integrated Products (NASDAQ: MXIM) introduces the MAX5108*/MAX5109 (dual) and MAX5115/MAX5116 (quad) nonvolatile, rail-to-rail, buffered, 8-bit D/A converters (DACs). These nonvolatile devices are the only DACs available in the industry with a high-speed 2-wire I2C** interface that accepts data rates up to 400ksps. The devices are also highly accurate and guaranteed monotonic over the full operating temperature range. These low-cost, 8-bit DACs are ideal for applications such as digital gain and offset adjustment, programmable attenuators, portable instruments, and power-amp bias control.
The MAX5108/MAX5109 and MAX5115/MAX5116 feature a single +2.7V to +5.5V supply range and low 200µA/DAC supply current during write operations. In comparison, the closest nonvolatile DAC competitor consumes 3mA. A software-selectable shutdown feature reduces the supply current to 20µA (max), compared to the closest competitions 1mA of shutdown current. The MAX5108/MAX5109 and MAX5115/MAX5116 power-up with the last command stored in the nonvolatile memory (prior to power-down) and transferred to the DAC registers, which set the DAC outputs to a predefined value. A mute function independently drives each DAC output to its respective low-side reference voltage. Addressing options allow multiple devices to be connected to the same I2C bus.
The MAX5108/MAX5109 are available in a 6mm x 5mm, 16-pin QSOP package, and the MAX5115/MAX5116 are available in a 6mm x 8.5mm,
20-pin QSOP package. Prices for the MAX5108/MAX5109 and the MAX5115/MAX5116 start at $3.37 and $5.97, respectively (1000-up, FOB USA).
