Low-Cost Silicon Oscillator Features ±0.3% Frequency Tolerance
SUNNYVALE, CA-December 9, 2004-Dallas Semiconductor introduces the DS1088L, a low-cost, fixed-frequency, all-silicon EconOscillator. The DS1088L is a single-output square-wave generator, factory-trimmed for output frequencies ranging from 312kHz to 133MHz. Its initial tolerance is ±0.3% (at 3.3V and 25°C); accuracy over the full operating ranges (2.7V to 3.6V and -20°C to +85°C) is ±1.0%.
The DS1088L is designed to replace crystal-based oscillators in applications where size, power, startup reliability, and shock/vibration tolerance are critical. This new silicon oscillator is packaged in an 8-pin µMAX®, which is 75% smaller than a typical surface-mount 133MHz crystal oscillator (XO) and saves board space. Supply current for a given load at 133MHz is 45% less than a typical XO. Oscillation startup time is almost three orders of magnitude faster than a typical XO. Besides these advantages, the DS1088L's price starts at $0.45, making it cost competitive with XOs (10,000-up, FOB USA).
