LOW-NOISE, STEP-UP DC-DC CONVERTER WITH 2.4A CURRENT LIMIT AND COMPENSATION PIN FOR FLEXIBILITY

SUNNYVALE, CA-July 13, 2004-Maxim Integrated Products (NASDAQ: MXIM) introduces the MAX8715 boost converter that incorporates high-performance, current-mode, fixed-frequency, pulse-width-modulation circuitry with a built-in 0.125W channel MOSFET to provide a highly efficient regulator with fast response. The MAX8715 has a maximum current limit of 2.4A, which supports the supply requirements of most notebook and LCD monitor displays. High switching frequency (1.2MHz or 640MHz selectable) allows easy filtering and faster loop performance. An external compensation pin provides the user with flexibility in determining loop dynamics, allowing the use of small, low equivalent-series-resistance (ESR) ceramic output capacitors.

Soft-start is programmed with an external capacitor, which sets the input-current ramp rate. In shutdown mode, current consumption is reduced to 0.1_A. The MAX8715 is available in a space-saving 8-pin µMAX package and operates over the extended temperature range (-40°C to +85°C).

Prices start at $3.11 (1000-up, FOB USA). A preassembled evaluation kit is available with recommended external components to speed designs.

µMAX is a registered trademark of Maxim Integrated Products, Inc.
