H.264 Codecs

Maxim offers a range of products to meet your H.264 codec requirements. The Mobilygen™ family of H.264 codecs provide high-definition (HD) and multichannel SD encoding and decoding in system-on-chip (SoC) solutions.

These SoC devices include an embedded ARM™ processor, NAND or NOR Flash support, SD/SDIO/MMC/CE-ATA interface, and Ethernet MAC, USB 2.0 OTG port, UARTs, JTAG, serial control, GPIO. The 240MHz ARM926™ processor includes DSP extensions, 16kB instruction cache, 16kB data cache, and 16kB scratch-pad memory.


High-Definition Encoding and Decoding: MG3500
  • Encodes 720p60, 1080p24, 1080p30, or 1080i60 material
  • Simultaneously encodes two 720p30 sources, or simultaneously encodes and decodes a 720p30 source
  • Supports baseline, main, and high profiles up to level 4.1 MBAFF, allowing the highest quality per bit of interlaced material
  • Supports IDE and CompactFlash®, and extends the Ethernet MAC capability to support Gigabit Ethernet


720p30 Encoding and Decoding: MG2580
  • Encodes 720p30 input while simultaneously scaling and encoding it as SD and CIF
  • Has all the SoC features of the MG3500 above
  • Cost-effective solution for numerous applications including: IP cameras, video phones, capture/transcoding devices for PCs and personal media players (MP3)
