- What is a device NDA?
A device NDA (nondisclosure agreement) is a legal document you sign that requires you to keep certain, specified information secret. In other words, any information we send you covered by this NDA (and marked confidential) should not be shared with other companies or vendors. A device NDA usually covers a limited number of devices and protects the information that Maxim gives to you.
- Why is an NDA required?
Because of the cryptographic nature of some secure microcontrollers, the U.S. government places restrictions on the sale, use, and export of these devices. An NDA is required to control the dissemination of information about such devices.
- What documentation can I get without an NDA?
Quick view sheets and product previews (similar to abbreviated data sheets) are available without an NDA and outline the basic functionality of a secure microcontroller. These documents are generally available on the Maxim web site. In addition, some application notes (also on the Maxim web site) are available without an NDA when the contents of the application note do not discuss details of the cryptographic capabilities of the secure microcontroller.
- Can I get samples without an NDA?
No, samples and documentation both require an NDA. In addition, samples may also require a BIS711 form to be filled out, depending on your location or end markets. If this form is required, we will email instructions to you when we receive your signed NDA.
- Which devices require an NDA to get the documentation?
Current products that require an NDA for detailed documentation are the DS5230, DS5240, DS5250 and the MAXQ1103.
- Can I print out copies of the documentation? Can I copy the documentation CD?
You can print copies of the documentation and make backups of the CD for internal corporate use only.
- Why do you need to know my end market/application?
Because the export of cryptographic products is monitored and controlled by the U.S. government, we are required to know the basic end product and markets (countries) in which it will be sold.
