Touch Interface Products Touch screens have become widespread due to their ease of use, intuitive interface, and stylish look. Haptic (or, tactile) feedback complements the touch interface by emulating the feeling of a button press. Maxim is introducing innovative touch interface products for various end markets. Target applications include cellphones, digital still cameras (DSCs), digital video cameras (DVCs), multifuncional printers (MFPs), digital photo frames (DPFs), personal navigation devices (PNDs), small-screen laptops, financial terminals, POS terminals, etc.


Resistive touch — Distinctive features
  • Smallest size — Availability of wafer-level packages enables miniaturization of end products.

  • Reduced total system power — On-chip digital preprocessing validates touch events before they are sent to the application processor. This reduces interrupt servicing of false or redundant touch events and lowers total system power. The device has an autonomous mode, which enables automatic wake-up upon detection of a touch event.

  • Reduced bus data traffic — Built-in dynamic aperture feature (position hysteresis) and on-chip FIFO reduce latency in the touch response and unnecessary data transfer between the device and application processor/microcontroller.

  • Integrated haptic controller plus motor driver — On-chip programmable pattern generator simplifies the addition of haptic feedback to any end equipment with a touch screen.

  • Simplified recognition of complex touch events — Data tagging enables to distinguish between simple touch events and complex touch events (flick, double tap, etc.).

  • Keypad controller
