Triple-Output, TFT-LCD, DC-DC Converter

SUNNYVALE, CA-November 19, 2004-Maxim Integrated Products (NASDAQ: MXIM) introduces the MAX8726, a triple-output DC/DC converter packaged in a low-profile TSSOP. The MAX8726 provides the regulated voltages required by active matrix, thin-film transistor (TFT) liquid crystal displays (LCDs). One high-power DC/DC converter and two low-power charge pumps convert the +3.3V to +5V input supply into three independent output voltages. The primary, high-power DC/DC converter generates a boosted output voltage up to 13V that is regulated within +/-1%. The low-power BiCMOS control circuitry and the low on-resistance (0.35Ω) of the integrated MOSFET allows efficiency up to 93%. The 1MHz current-mode PWM architecture provides fast transient response and allows use of ultra-small inductors and ceramic capacitors.

Dual charge pumps independently regulate one positive output and one negative output. These low-power outputs use external diode and capacitor stages to regulate output voltages up to +40V and -40V. The MAX8726 is available in a space saving 16-pin TSSOP package and operates over a -40°C to +85°C temperature range.

Prices start at $3.07 (1000-up, FOB USA). A pre-assembled MAX8726 evaluation kit is available with recommended external components to reduce design time.
