Industry's Smallest Dual, 256-Tap Digital Potentiometers Fit in 3mm x 3mm TQFN

SUNNYVALE, CA-August 14, 2004-Maxim Integrated Products (NASDAQ: MXIM) introduces the MAX5477/MAX5478/MAX5479 and MAX5487/MAX5488/MAX5489, the industry's smallest 256-step, dual, nonvolatile digital potentiometers with on-chip EEPROM and packaged in a 3mm x 3mm TQFN. The integrated memory enables the devices to operate like mechanical potentiometers by storing the wiper position prior to power down. This capability significantly reduces chip size, compared to mechanical pots. The MAX5477/MAX5478/MAX5479 and MAX5487/MAX5488/MAX5489 also offer ratiometric and end-to-end temperature coefficients as low as 5ppm/°C and 50ppm/°C, respectively.

These new devices save power by requiring less than 1µA in standby current and operating from a 2.7V to 5.5V single supply. End-to-end resistances of 10kΩ, 50kΩ, and 100kΩ are available. The MAX5477/MAX5478/MAX5479 use an addressable I2C interface, and the MAX5487/MAX5488/MAX54889 use an SPI interface.

Prices start at $1.87 for the MAX5477/MAX5478/MAX5479 and $1.87 for the MAX5487/MAX5488/MAX5489 (1000-up, FOB USA).

I2C Purchase of I2C components from Maxim Integrated Products, Inc., or one of its sublicensed Associated Companies, conveys a license under the Philips I2C Patent Rights to use these components in an I2C system, provided that the system conforms to the I2C Standard Specification as defined by Philips.

SPI is a trademark of Motorola, Inc.
