4A, 20ns, Dual MOSFET Driver Available in 3mm x 3mm, Thermally Enhanced TDFN Package

SUNNYVALE, CA-August 3, 2004-Maxim Integrated Products (NASDAQ: MXIM) introduces the MAX5054, a high-speed, dual MOSFET driver in a 3mm x 3mm, thermally enhanced TDFN package, capable of dissipating up to 2W at +70 degrees Celsius ambient temperature. The device is for use in power MOSFET switching, motor control, and the design of ultra-compact, high-frequency, switching power supplies. Each MOSFET driver is capable of sourcing and sinking up to 4A peak current with low 20ns propagation delay. The propagation-delay matching between channels is typically 2ns and typically less than ±10ns from part to part. The device's low propagation delay over the supply voltage range and tight delay tolerance between devices allow excellent control when driving the MOSFETs in push-pull converters, and for driving secondary-side synchronous rectifiers in isolated power supplies.

The MAX5054 is rated for operation from a 4V to 15V supply voltage and can withstand up to 18V transients. Moreover, the MAX5054's inverting and noninverting logic inputs are designed to operate at up to +18V, regardless of the VDD supply voltage. The device includes a logic circuit to prevent internal shoot-through current during output state change. A choice of either VDD/2 CMOS (MAX5054A) or TTL (MAX5054B) logic input is available.

The MAX5054 is available in the -40 degrees Celsius to +125 degrees Celsius automotive temperature range in a 3mm x 3mm, 8-pin TDFN package with exposed pad. The TDFN package has a 44% smaller footprint than commercially available FET drivers in LLP packages and is 71% smaller than the 8-pin SO package. Prices start at $0.78 (1000-up, FOB USA).
